December 18, 2007 Start the New Year By Making Sure Your AntiVirus is Uptodate

Well, its time to start thinking about New Years resolutions, and for computer users, that may mean reviewing how safe you are on the net. One way is to get to know your AntiVirus status page. Make sure you know what your AV Icon looks like when it is performing well. If it changes colors or disappears from your system tray, you may have a problem. Make sure your computer has had a full system scan at least once a week. Do you know the date of you virus definitions, if not, you may be scanning for viruses each week, but not catching anything that is newer than the last time the definitions were updated!!!! EEEEKKK

If you don’t have an AntiVirus installed on your machine, check out Symantec at :

Symantec AntiVirus

One work of caution: if you are reading this because you think you have a virus, try to rid your computer of the virus before you download an AntiVirus program. Many viruses work at preventing and AntiVirus program from loading correctly.

Happy and Safe Computing!!

December 12, 2007 Playin Hookie or a Day in Chicago!!

I once again had the pleasure to trave to Chicago with Canterbury Books and Tours. Thinking about seeing a play in Chicago, I also think about the traffic, parking, tickets and decide not to go. I have discovered that with Canterbury I just look forward to the day.
Yesterday we left the parking lot in a warm bus, met new friends and visited with old companions until we were dropped off on Michigan Avenue for lunch and shopping. We had a leisurely lunch at the Grande Lux Cafe overlooking Michigan Avenue. Afterward, the bus picked us up and dropped us off the see “Phantom of the Opera” The location of our seats were wonderful. Afterward we enjoyed a warm ride back to Rockford without a single worry about tickets, traffic, parking or tolls.

June 14, 2005 Help Help!!! They are going to lock me up!!!!

This year, I have the honor and pleasure of participating in MDA’s TELU 2007 to help “Jerry’s Kids®”. To reach my goal I need your help!

I’d like to include you or your company on my list of contributors who are helping me reach my goal. Your donation would help MDA continue the important fight against muscular dystrophy. Check out my web page by clicking on the link above. There you’ll find all kinds of information about MDA, and be able to make your tax-deductible donation on-line using your credit card.

MDA serves people in our community with neuromuscular disease by providing clinics, support groups, assistance with the purchase and repair of wheelchairs, braces and communication devices, and summer camp for kids. MDA also funds research grants to help find treatments and cures for some 43 neuromuscular diseases that affect people of all ages, right here in our community.

I sincerely hope that you’ll take the opportunity to support MDA. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me.

On behalf of the families MDA serves, thank you! Remember that each and every dollar you donate makes a difference!! No donation is too small.

For Folks who still remember Abbott and Costello

You have to be old enough to remember Abbott and Costello, and too old to REALLY understand computers, to fully appreciate this. For those of us who sometimes get flustered by our computers, please read on…
If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch, “Who’s on First?” might have turned out something like this:

COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?
COSTELLO: Thanks. I’m setting up an office in my den and I’m thinking about buying a computer.
ABBOTT: Mac?
COSTELLO: No, the name’s Lou.
ABBOTT: Your computer?
COSTELLO: I don’t own a computer. I want to buy one.
ABBOTT: Mac?
COSTELLO: I told you, my name’s Lou.
ABBOTT: What about Windows?
COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?
ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?
COSTELLO: I don’t know. What will I see when I look at the windows?
ABBOTT: Wallpaper.
COSTELLO: Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software.
ABBOTT: Software for Windows?
COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have?
A BBOTT: Office.
COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?
ABBOTT: I just did.
COSTELLO: You just did what?
ABBOTT: Recommend something.
COSTELLO: You recommended something?
ABBOTT: Yes.
COSTELLO: For my office?
ABBOTT: Yes.
COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?
ABBOTT: Office.
COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!
ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows.
COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, let’s just say I’m sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?
ABBOTT: Word.
COSTELLO: What word?
ABBOTT: Word in Office.
COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.
ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.
COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?
ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue “W”.
